Shooting in Malawi

Bahareh Hosseini is an award–winning documentary filmmaker passionate about the power of film for social change.

Born in Tehran, she has shot and directed projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan, across Africa and in the UK for broadcasters and charities.

Bahareh shot BBC 3′s Women, Weddings, War And Me. The documentary won Best News And Current Affairs Content at Broadcast Digital Awards, 2010 and was nominated and highly commended for Best Current Affairs Documentary – television at AIB’s International Media Excellence Awards, 2010.

For her first solo documentary production Afghan Girls Can Kick, Bahareh spent three months living in Afghanistan following a group of young women breaking the mould of what it means to be an Afghan woman – in the national football team.

The award-winning Afghan Girls Can Kick was broadcast on BBC World and other leading channels worldwide and has been screened at many film festivals since its release in 2008.

She is currently shooting various projects in the UK and working on a number of documentary projects with Helen Cotton at See Change Films. www.seechangefilms.com
